Virgin Atlantic Takes Off From Mumbai
Virgin Atlantic's head Richard Branson recently announced the launch of the
airline's three flights a week service from Mumbai bringing the total number
of flights out of India (with a daily service from Delhi) to 10. This service
promises passengers premium quality on-board, be it flat beds, masseurs, private
bars or even manicurists. Unlike the recent flock of low cost carriers, Branson
wants to bring glamour back into flying.
A round-trip to London on Virgin Atlantic flights would cost approximately Rs
27,000. Having been in service for the last 21 years, Branson evinced his interest
in investing in the Indian domestic aviation scenario if allowed to do so. Apart
from Mumbai and Delhi, Branson is also interested in flying to other cities
such as Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Amritsar and Bangalore depending on the bilateral
talks with the civil aviation authorities. Interestingly, Virgin Galactic Service,
a part of Branson's Virgin Group, is setting up space flights for tourists in
the next two and half years. Branson also evinced interest in investing in other
sectors such as healthcare, telecom and music.
