Nestled in a cosy villa which in the 18th century was the residence of Marquis Joseph Francois Dupleix, the 'Maire' (Mayor) of Pondicherry, Le Dupleix has all modern facilities blended nicely with old tradition. Exquisite French Indian carved woodwork from the demolished house of Dupleix adorns this hotel enhancing the French caress.

Each of the specially designed rooms has an inimitable style with a mix of warmth and elegance. As you enter the rooms one gets a feeling of freshness which is the effect of walls being refinished with 'Chettinad Egg Plaster', a mixture of egg white, powdered sea shells and yoghurt. All the 14 rooms are equipped with the contemporary features such as air conditioning, an Internet connection, a bathtub, a minibar, a tea/coffee maker and so on. Each room also has a snug family room with a television. One can keep the veranda doors open throughout the day and experience the scenic beauty. And then if you fancy a nice evening, climb the staircase with its tiny waterfalls and reach the sit out. Get a couple of drinks and just enjoy the mild moonlight on your face.

If you have had your share of drinks step down to the Governor's Lounge, the gourmet restaurant at the garden serving a host of Indian, Continental and French specialties. The restaurant has a bar alongside, which serves international wine and a wide choice of cocktails. Something is missing! How about a dessert for that sweet tooth? Try the lip-smacking Indian desserts. If you are the coffee-drinking sort, choose from a range of award winning coffees carefully selected from plantations in the Nilgiris. After a good dinner, walk along the lovely beach.

All you have to do is plan a trip to Pondicherry and stay at Le Dupleix where you can sleep like a Governor and eat like a Nawab. Sounds like a good deal. Do not forget to stopover at the Aurobindo Ashram. It is worth a visit. Pick up some of those lovely candles for your home.
