1. How safe is it to go on a backpacking trip in Croatia and what are the procedures for undertaking the same?

2. How expensive is a trip to Bahamas and what would it cost for a seven-day holiday?

The cost of a seven-day tour to Bahamas will vary depending on the choice of hotels and other facilities. Approximate cost would be in the range of Rs 80,000 to Rs 1,20,000 per person.


3. Which are the countries which offer Indians a visa on arrival facility? Do Indians need a passport or visa to go to Nepal?

Indian nationals may be given a visa on arrival at the following countries - Thailand, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Fiji, Maldives, Nepal and Bhutan. Indians travelling to Nepal must carry their passport or voting card as proof of identification.


4. I am a strict vegetarian who will be shortly going to meet my son in the United States. I am apprehensive about non-vegetarian food being served to me on board. Does any airline have special arrangements for vegetarians?

Yes, most of the airlines these days cater to vegetarians. For Indians, they serve Asian vegetarian meals on request.


5. I have got admission in a US university and will soon have to apply for a visa. I want to know what are the chances of my application being rejected, given that I fulfil all the usual criteria? Do they specify the reason?

Once you have already got admission in a US university, the chances of getting the visa are bright.

However, a word of caution. The individual will still have to fulfil the basic criteria to convince the visa authorities the he/she does not intend to settle in the US.

In case of a rejection during the interview the embassy is not required to specify the reason for the rejection. They may call for more documents as desired by them. However, the granting of a visa is entirely at their discretion.


6. How expensive is it to go on a 10-day vacation to South America?

A vacation to South America will depend on the country to be visited as it is a vast continent. It will be an expensive vacation since airfare alone is higher than other destinations.


7. It is my understanding that some parts of the globe is ‘low season’ and some ‘high season’ for tourism at any time of the year. Could you tell me if I am right? Should I plan my journey accordingly?

Yes, there is a seasonality in different parts of the world at any time, mostly dependent on school/university vacations and weather. For holiday travel, it is best to take advantage of low season rates and plan the destination accordingly.
