Paradise Regained
Savio Rodrigues checks in at the Leela Goa
Picture this! Lying on the sun bed, out in the verandah of the Lagoon Suite
listening to the faint pitter-patter of rain drops merging with the strains
of the ethereal song, 'Hotel California' by the rock icon - Eagles while viewing
the ripples of water in the lake. All this with a glass of chilled beer in the
hand. Sounds inviting, doesn't it? Well, thats a little glimpse of what
the Leela Goa offers.
Winner of the Imperial Mark 2003-04 for its high level of service, the 75 acre
resort is a 45-minute picturesque drive from the airport, located at the tip
where the river Sal flows into the sea. Right from the traditional welcome of
a red vermillion 'tikka' at the entrance to the lobby aisle lined with ancient
Indian artifacts, the property exudes an air of Indian culture.
Each room is an epitome of luxury and you can choose from any of the 54 Pavilion
rooms, 74 Lagoon Suites, 4 Lagoon Deluxe Suites, 4 Royal Villas and 1 Presidential
Suite. But, if one is looking for that extra something, then check-out the Club
- the newly constructed state-of-the-art 15 Club Suites. The Pool Suite - the
Club's top-of-the-line offering, even has an in-house pool and overlooks the
golf course and the sandy beach.
Even though the room leaves one in raptures, I decided to get out and enjoy
the outdoor in a 'buggee' provided by the property. My first halt was the Spa
- the Ayurvedic Rejuvenation Centre. Trust me, the body massage for over 45
minutes with the different herbal oils is a sure fire rejuvenator.
After the re-charging sessions, I was ready for more sporty endeavours. One
could pretend to be Tiger Woods on the golf course or Michael Phelps in the
swimming pool. And if you fancy something wild try para-sailing- it is an adernalin
rush. The same goes for water-skiing and jet-skiing.
All that excursion can leave one famished. If you feel Italian - drive down
to the River Side restaurant and try the Chef's Pasta, for Indian - walk down
to Jamavar. Susegado on the beach is ideal for a long leisurely lunch on dinner.
And after all the feasting, its time to shake that booty at Aqua with DJs mesmerising
music.
Contrary
to the belief that most properties in Goa are leisure destinations, the Leela
is also a wonderful option for conferencing and conventions. After all All
work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
