‘Quiet’ A Place To Conference
Madhavankutty Pillai checks out The
Radisson White Sands Resort, Goa
As you enter The Radisson White Sands
Resort, Goa, you will notice that there is very little ornateness
and an air of casualness the uniform of the hotel staff
is jeans and T-shirt. After you cross the lobby and walk down
the staircase to pass through Waterfalls Cafe, the winding
swimming pool which greets you is all of 196 metres long.
Beyond the pool is the beach and the South Goan waters, off
Varca beach. The Radisson White Sands is a modest two lakh
square feet property spread over 38 acres of land. A good,
quiet place to have your conference, go about your business
and blend it with some great times and recreation.
You will also notice a feeling of
space, an accent on airiness and openness. The rooms, as everything
else, are tastefully functional, overlooking the pool or the
garden. In the words of the propertys associate architect
Dennis Coelho, the idea was to be "crisp and pristine,
no slick finishing, no pseudo Portuguese style."
To start with the business end, conferencing
facilities at Radisson White Sands include a fully equipped
business centre with secretarial support and communication
equipment. It is open 24 hours, with all allied services that
go with it.
At the ground floor level (the lobby
is at the first floor level and reached by the driveway) is
the main banquet/conference hall which has the requisites
like data points for direct Internet connectivity, drop down
video screens, etc. Abutting the banquet hall and supported
by it, is a compact conference room with a capacity for 50
people and a 12-seater permanent boardroom.
On the other hand, if you want to
use the hotel as an incentive destination, then Radisson White
Sands can be a break filled with water sports activities like
parasailing, banana boat riding, jet skiing, etc. The hotel
can even take you on a detour into the waters to see some
dolphins and do some snorkelling at an island, which is about
one hour by boat.
As regards food, there are basically
four options - Waterfalls Cafe which offers a patio in addition
to air-conditioned dining; Flavors, situated at lobby level
offering North West Frontier cuisine and NUTS which is an
acronym for Never Underestimate The Spirits. The fourth option
is Dhow & Rambooze located on the beachfront. Rambooze
is a boat which has been modified into a bar and Dhow looks
like the archetypal Goan shack.
As regards price, though specific
details are available on request, double room packages of
three nights from June 1 to September 30 can range between
Rs 13,500 to Rs 22,000.
