Can you suggest places for a family holiday of two weeks in Sri Lanka? - Reshma Mehta, Bangalore

The country offers different vacation options as below:

  • For beach holidays, Galle and Bentota are excellent destinations.
  • To experience the culture of the country, the options are visits to Kandy, Sigria and Dambulla.
  • Sri Lanka being famous for tea, a visit to the Gardens at Nuwara Eliya is recommended.

Please suggest economical hotels in New York, specifically Manhattan for the month of August? - Gaurav Bhargava, Ahmedabad

While local promotional rates may be available, the recommended hotels are Dauville/ Days Inn Manhattan/ Amsterdam Inn/ Americana Hotel and the Habitat. All these properties are in the range of US$ 80-100 per room per night.

The airport lounges are either airline or hotel specific, which are used by the travellers duly endorsed by the airline while checking in. Sometimes, such facility is offered by the airlines to transit passengers. Certain card issuers offer this to their premium members through the concerned airlines or hotels. None of the card companies have this information. But we are further investigating this and will revert shortly.

I am planning a visit to the gambling capital of the world - Las Vegas. What are my best hotel options in the three and four-star category? - Sunil Chaturvedi, Kolkata

The hotels that provide you with the best options are The Excalibur and MGM Grand.

How do you obtain a visa to visit countries like El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, Belize, Costa Rica etc, who have no representation /mission in India? - Kiran Oza, Bhavnagar

Some of the above countries have representation in India, the others follow a different process as mentioned below: -

  • El Salvador - You have to apply for a visa at their office in Kolkata.
  • Belize/Costa Rica - Apply at their representation in New Delhi.
  • Guatemala - You have to apply to the Indian Consulate at Guatemala through the Ministry of External Affairs in India.
  • Nicaragua - The application has to be processed through their representation in London, Taipei or Washington. Application should be forwarded through the Ministry of External Affairs.
  • Honduras - The local citizen/associate in Honduras will have to contact the Department of Public Security, Government of Honduras, for processing visas for Indian nationals.
